Why I Run

I run to feel free. Running provides me with a clean slate each and every time I lace up my shoes. Some runs are easy, others are difficult, but every time I am immersed in the moment. Running is my “me” time where I get to clear my head.

Running is also a great opportunity to be part of a larger community.  While it is satisfying to have a good run it is that much better to experience it with others. There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.

WHY I SUPPORT BLESSONS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR WOMEN

Getting an education is not easy for everyone.  I am thankful to have grown up with people around me that believed knowledge is a priority.  That doesn’t mean it was always easy.  I had a “lesson” in college that almost required me to take a semester off.  Fortunately I was able to get through it and grow over time from it.  The blessing in the situation is who I have become today, and I can’t think of a better way to give back than to help support others on their own journey.

Why I Run

I run because it improves both my physical and mental health. It's a time I can take to focus on myself and reflect on all of the positive things in my life; it's naturally fulfilling for me, and I am thankful everyday for my ability to participate in such an empowering sport.

Why I support Blessons

As someone that was fortunate enough to complete both a Bachelors and Masters degree, I support this organization because I believe every woman should have the opportunity to successfully complete college, no matter what challenges she may be facing. Education is empowering, and ensuring that it reaches as many women as possible will change the world.

Why I Run

I actually have 3 main reasons:

1)  I like to keep fit and it is a challenge.  When I first started running 4 years ago I couldn't even run 1 mile.  Building up to run my first half marathon in 2013 was a big deal.  I want to be in good shape to play and run with my grandson!

2)  I like to share the enthusiasm of running with two of my daughters.  They are the ones who talked me into running my first marathon!

Last, but not least, the third reason is I like to eat and drink.  Need I say more?

Why I support Blessons

Life throws curve balls at you when you least expect it.  I want to do what I can to support women who are in rough situations.  After retiring from Caterpillar I now work at a junior college in Peoria.  One of their core values is "Changing the world by increasing knowledge and skills".  Blessons also helps to drive this value!

Please see the information provided on the great work Blessons does to help women. Even donating $1 you are helping me to achieve my goal. Thank you!

Why I Run

I have hypothyroidism which causes my metabolism to slow down, running helps to speed up my metabolism and helps my body to feel better and cope with the side effects of hypothyroidism.

Running a marathon is a goal I’ve had for many years and it will feel great to accomplish this race!

Why I Run

I run because I can.  Because after divorce, cancer, loss of friends and loved ones; I realize that I am beyond blessed and lucky that my body is strong and able to handle a feat like this.  That I am blessed to have family and friends cheering me on, encouraging me through this journey.

My body is strong again and training will prepare it to ensure this feat.  However, mentally I struggle daily on if I can accomplish this. It's not about finishing first. It's about being brave enough to go out and overcome doubt, pain, exhaustion and push myself to cross that finish line. No matter how long it takes.

I also run for those who can not.  I hope to show that anyone can overcome obstacles in life and grow stronger from them.  The symbolism of running a marathon parallels life in that it shows that triumph is possible, no matter how difficult the journey to the finish line.

Lastly, I run to feel alive.  To meditate.  To explore.  To learn something new about myself and the world around me.  I run because when everything seems chaotic and spinning out of control - my runs allow me to escape the chaos and find the answers buried deep inside.

WHY I SUPPORT BLESSONS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR WOMEN

I believe in the power of education and in that it can transform a person.  Learning opportunities shouldn’t be restricted to certain age ranges as we are all seeking to gain knowledge daily just by being alive.  If one is afforded the opportunity to study and advance her learnings, there is no limit to the abundance of succeeding in life.  No one should have to struggle to obtain education.  Blessons recognizes this and provides a solution to encourage and support women when they need it most.
